From August 8th to September 7th, The Firehouse Gallery in Phoenix, Arizona there will be a Postcard Art show, featuring mail art from all over the United States, possibly internationally. My postcard is just one of the 156 + items that has been sent in. Tonight is the opening. All the postcard is affordable, and the proceeds will go to benefit the gallery’s recent maintenance issues.

Phoenix’s local Art Collective have gathering in The Firehouse Gallery for over ten years. It’s been a place for artists, musicians, poets, comedians and other performers to create and show their talent.  As stated on the event’s Facebook page, many artists have gained confidence and respect by starting up in this venue.

Here’s some photos of the postcard submissions:

This was the postcard I had sent to the show. Took one of my drawings previously self-published in Babalon Babes issue four back in 2009. This pin-up is supposed to represent the astrology sign of everyone’s favorite moonchild, Cancer. Then I applied mixed mediums to get this result:

Late last year, I sent some mail art to an ongoing project. Always loved the concept of mail art. Along with a decorated envelope complete with glitter (I think. It’s been some time…) I included the last issue I did of Babalon Babes. It was number four, which focused on astrology. Here’s the link to the mail art project based in Germany:

Below are two illustrations in Babalon Babes issue 4. The first pinup represents the sign Pisces.

The second one is a more abstract version of Gemini, using Godzilla and tarot cards.

Back in the winter, I submitted some mail art:

Mail Art using illustrations from Babalon Babes issue four. Michele Witchipoo. Envelope in Madame ZuZu's mail art show. June 2013.

Mail Art using illustrations from Babalon Babes issue four. Michele Witchipoo. Envelope in Madame ZuZu’s mail art show. Highland Park, IL. June 2013.

If you’re in the Highland Park, IL area, the show opens today at Madama ZuZu’s. The exact address is Madame ZuZu’s Teahouse, 582 Roger Williams Ave Highland Park, IL. The show begins June 6th, 2013 at 6pm and runs through June 13th.

Basically I used a copy of a Babalon Babes sketch from 2009, pasted onto the envelope, used glitter watercolor and sealed it with transparent glass beads. You can’t tell from this scan, but it’s a mixed medium piece. The sketch itself is my version of the astrology sign Pisces. Also I still some copies of Babalon Babes issue four available, astrology theme. You can order through PayPal, cost only four dollars. Basically $3.00 plus $1.00 for shipping. You can order through my website: http://witchesbrewpress.com/

Last month, I forgot exactly when…saw that Hyperallergic was accepting entries for their mail art exhibit. Since I used to love mail art, thought it was worth a shot. So I was really happy to find out my piece is going to be shown, along with other wonderful artists at this show:

Mail Art Show At Hyperallergic

Wish I had a JPG to show you what piece I had submitted. Alas, lost the flash drive it was on last Thursday. Oh well. At least this gives me an excuse to visit the exhibit. (Shrugs)

Still, I’m very happy to have been accepted into this show. Again, mail art and other creative postal stuff was something I was really digging during my younger days.
