Inktober 2019 – Ghost

We’re reaching the end of October. Which means we’re reaching the end of Inktober 2019. While I did a few Inktober prompts, most likely it won’t be posted in order of how the prompts were listed.

2019promptlist

With the Inktober prompt of ‘Ghost’, I did a sketch of the band Ghost.

Just joking. Like the stage costumes, but not a fan of the music.

Instead, I went more of the classic illustration route.

FrankenPsychoBunny! (Psycho Bunny Sketch of The Week 10/27/2019)

This week’s Psycho Bunny sketch of the week is based on the horror classic Frankenstein, originally created by English author Mary Shelley, and later became iconic thanks to Boris Karloff’s performance in 1931. Although it should be noted that the very first Frankenstein film was released in 1910.

It’s been extremely busy on my end. Hopefully I will find the time to post more work on my blog, including my Inktober 2019 sketches.

Happy Halloween!

Another Use for Pumpkins – Psycho Bunny Sketch of The Week!

My schedule has been slammed lately. Not much time to do all the Inktober 2019 prompts. I did sketch, however.

Radio Show On WHCSRadio

So this just in. In addition to everything else I’ve been doing, I began a radio show. The focus is on comic book creators. Artists, writers, and other creatives. You can stream it live from WHCSradio.org. You can tune in every Friday from 1-2pm until further notice.

The show started on September 27th, with comic book artist, illustrator and musician (he has the Punk band Dead On A Friday) Dave Fox as the first guest. The second episode was aired on Oct. 4th with up and coming comic artist and illustration Squiddy Sprinkle. Today I interviewed Justin Melkmann, another comic artist and musician, who is the co-founder of the NYC Punk band WWIX, and also current member of Recreational Outrage.

I’ll be your host, interviewing all comic book pros. The next interview scheduled on October 26th is Danielle Draik, comic book artist, zine maker, painter and sculptor. On Nov. 8th we have comic book artist and illustrator Mindy Indy, who is having a successful Kickstarter.

The list of guest will be updated as the radio program continues. Eventually these interviews will be archived and posted online. So tune in again starting Oct. 26th.

Post NYCC 2019 – Psycho Bunny Sketch of The Week.

This past weekend was New York Comic Con 2019. I’ve been attending each one since it’s inception back in Every year a certain type of magic sparks whenever NYCC happens. My only regret was I had to miss Ridgewood Open Studios, which opened on the same weekend. In which I had a painting on display at a group art show, over at Lorimoto Gallery.

To my surprise, there wasn’t as much Deadpool cosplay mashups as previous years. There was still a few.

Which leads to the return of the Psycho Bunny sketch of the week. Drawn by yours truly.

Photos From Scavengers @ BFP Creative, September 2019.

7FBE0083-C9C4-4373-8121-73818921F650

This exhibit recently ended, but here’s photos from last month’s exhibit at BFP Creative. This exhibit was also on display during Bushwick Open Studios 2019. (Also check out my recent post of BOS 2019.)

The idea behind Scavengers was to create art from recycled or found materials. It was to be curated by Jaynie Gillman Crimmins and Sharilyn Neidhardt, in a space generously donated by Thomas Burr Dodd and Brooklyn Fire Proof. Since I self-published many of my sequential work, this was perfect. Finally I could make something out of all those printing errors from the copy and printing shops.

Basically I took scraps, receipts, unusable ink nibs, and other discarded items, combining them together into a 3D paper collage. Along the way, I found cracked pieces of a mirror on a Bushwick sidewalk. That was thrown into the collages. The basis was from earlier this year, when quickly putting together my comic/zine ‘The Temptation of Squeaky.’ It had been a while since sending a comic to print. The ineptitude of some of the copy shop employees never ceased to amaze me. Definitely not in a good way. After pulling out of a copy place in Astoria, Queens which totally sucked, I finally found a decent one somewhere in Manhattan. Months later, I was doing an artist talk at Trans-cen-der. After that event, there was an opportunity to take part in the Scavengers show. I had saved most of my receipts from that horrendous print job in Astoria, Queens. My chagrin was exchanged from nuisance to creating a brand new installation. Not that I recommend this path to anybody. Nonetheless, it clicked. Things have a way of working out.

There were other amazing artists at the show. On the list were the following artists: Elena Soterakis, Jeannine Bardo, Walter Brown, Eliot Markell, Leah Harper, Aaron Schraeter, Meer Musa, Jamie Martinez, James Prez, Jeanne Tremel, Bonny Leibowitz, Niki Lederer, Chris Smith, Susan Sechler Luss, Nina Meledandri, Amy Bassin and, Sharilyn Neidhardt.

Psycho Bunny Sketch of The Week & Inktober 2019

Okay, so it’s been over a month since posting a Psycho Bunny Sketch of The Week. Life has been really busy. Plus I started a brand new radio show, which I interview comic book pros, like artists, writers, podcasters, and other pros. Details forthcoming in another post.

In the meantime, October is here, which means it’s also Inktober. So combining the two, here’s my Psycho Bunny and Inktober 2019 sketch # 1, with the Inktober prompt of Ring.

Bushwick Open Studios 2019 Visual Review

Two weekends ago was the annual Bushwick Open Studios. Since it’s inception, it’s become a big deal in the NYC art scene. Not as huge as getting a VIP pass to The Armory Show during NYC Art Week, but you get the idea.

Although it was late September, the temperatures still felt like summer beach weather. Which made it perfect of House of Yes‘ block party. House of Yes had parties both outdoors and indoors, waving its admission fee as a thank you to the community.

I didn’t have much time this year to check out a majority of the studios or events, but I managed to cram a little bit in. It should be noted that this upcoming weekend, it’s not only New York Comic Con 2019 (NYCC) but also the first year for Ridgewood Open Studios, the next door neighbor of Bushwick, Brooklyn. I have a Pro pass for both NYCC and a painting at Lorimoto Gallery, located in where else – Ridgewood, Queens. Lorimoto Gallery is having a group art show with local Ridgewood artists.

Here’s a few photos from the House of Yes party. Since it still felt like summer, I was thankful that the club had the AC on inside.

Back outdoors, there was drag/performance art. (IG: @only_atnight)

Walking around the immediate Jefferson Street area, I went up the stairs to a former factory space, now used as artists studios. Many of them welcomed the public.

Walking around back outside, this sighting reminded me of footage from the 1960s. When Hippies traveled around in discarded, then refurbished school buses:
